SEO for service businesses: turning search intent into relevant enquiries
People searching for a service need a provider they can trust. Build a clear journey from the search question to a useful enquiry, and measure where that journey works or breaks.
Give each page a distinct customer purpose
Start with services you actually provide. A renovation customer needs to know the scope, service area, examples and how to discuss an estimate. A transport customer needs routes, load types and quote requirements. Separate pages are useful when the questions genuinely differ. Splitting the same copy into dozens of keyword variations does not create a better offer.
Research demand before writing
Collect customer language from conversations, keyword research and available search-console reports. Group requests by intent: purchasing belongs on a service page, comparison questions belong in a useful guide, and branded searches need clear company information. Measure demand for the market you serve rather than inventing search volumes. Answer the question and support a decision instead of repeating the keyword throughout the text.
Preparing for Yandex
Add your main HTTPS address to Yandex Webmaster, verify ownership and submit the sitemap. Review diagnostics, indexed pages and exclusion reasons. For local services, state your real coverage, working contact channels and what the service includes. Region settings and business listings should reflect your actual operation. Avoid fictional offices created to target nearby cities. This matters particularly when serving customers in Russia. Yandex guidance ↗
Preparing for Google
Verify your domain in Search Console, submit the sitemap and inspect your important URLs. Compare your declared canonical with the URL Google selects. Keep useful pages crawlable, connect them with ordinary links and use descriptive headings. Russian and English versions need separate URLs, complete translations and reciprocal hreflang. Useful information matters more than reaching an arbitrary word count. Google guidance ↗
Use evidence a customer can check
Show genuine work and explain the problem and what is verifiable. A service page should describe deliverables, required inputs, cost factors and the next step. When publishing case metrics, include the source, reporting period and counting method. Label demonstration projects as concepts. A portfolio should not imply revenue or enquiry growth that you cannot substantiate.
Make the mobile journey easy
Check whether text is readable, layouts remain stable and links and forms work comfortably on a phone. Compress large images, reserve their dimensions and avoid unnecessary scripts. Good Core Web Vitals targets are an LCP within 2.5 seconds, an INP within 200 milliseconds and a CLS within 0.1. These describe user experience, not a promise of top rankings. A laboratory performance score and real visitor data are different measurements. Metric definitions ↗
Measure enquiries as well as traffic
Send a test enquiry before promotion and confirm that the team receives it. Distinguish a successfully delivered form from opening it or creating a draft. Review queries, impressions, visits, relevant enquiries and how the team handles them. For office renovation, a request with floor area, location and timing is more useful than an incidental click. Keep contact details and message contents out of analytics events.
A CELORA example: a fault behind a polished interface
During our CELORA check on 8 October 2026, a service URL without its final slash redirected to an internal server port. The homepage was also available at the technical duplicate /index.html. We corrected the redirects and checked the page responses. This is a specific technical-audit outcome: valid public destinations. It does not, by itself, demonstrate increased search impressions or enquiries.
Where Mail.ru fits
Do not automatically treat Mail.ru as a third independent index or buy a separate SEO package for it. Check the actual search-results destination and referral data when assessing the source. If Yandex provides those results, use Yandex tools for indexing. A portal address alone does not establish a separate search index. Without verified evidence, promises about Mail.ru rankings are not meaningful.
Choose the next action from the actual problem
If crawlers cannot reach the pages, start with technical faults. If crawling works but the offer is unclear, improve service explanations and evidence. If visitors arrive without enquiring, examine the offer, form and response process. The plan should follow the starting problem. Record a baseline and evaluate agreed measures rather than changing every page at once.
Before bringing in traffic
- Your services and coverage are accurately described.
- Important pages are accessible and have distinct titles and URLs.
- A test enquiry has been received and a responder assigned.
- Search consoles are connected and analytics distinguishes user actions.
